NAT helps to improve security and decrease the number of IP addresses an organization needs. NAT (Network Address Translation or Network Address Translator) is the virtualization of Internet Protocol (IP) addresses. Hence users would notice that end destination IP is logged in Wire-shark / packet trace If static routes are configured, then that is given higher preference over NAT/Public IP functions. When forwarding packets within a LAN, Public IP is obviously not considered. The public IP of a node is the IP address of the interface of the router to which it is connected. The destination IP address field (can be seen when logged in Wireshark/packet trace) changes per Public IP/NAT rules. The IP Addresses of the end nodes are assumed to be private. The Source IP logged in Wireshark and packet trace is always the IP of the source.
